No. 761 belongs to the pair 761-763, one of seven pairs of semi-detached houses that W.C. Dickerson designed in 1898 for developer George F. Johnson on the west side of Dawson Street, between East 156th Street and Longwood Avenue. Dickerson's Longwood doubles joined two houses under one roof, with a side driveway and iron gate between each pair, and most were set back from the street behind gardens or basement areas.

Nos. 761 and 763 have angular bays under steep polygonal roofs and Roman brick facades trimmed with splayed stone lintels, band courses and slender colonnettes. Each entrance is crowned by a foliated pediment with urns, and the cornice carries an anthemion pattern. The 1980 designation report recorded that No. 761 had lost its original roof shingles, and that the doors of both houses were replacements.
