Meehan's west-side row, including No. 833, is completed

No. 833 belongs to the 18-house row on the west side of Manida Street, finished on July 28, 1909. Two months earlier, a New York Times advertisement for the new two-family houses showed a drawing of this west-side row and praised the location as among the prettiest and easiest to reach in the Bronx, promising buyers a profitable investment.

“An advertisement for the houses ... was published in the New York Times in May 1909 and included an illustration of houses on the west side…”

No. 833 is the mirror-image partner of No. 837, sharing a party wall. Its stone door frame is topped by a wide lintel bearing a shield cartouche, and the second-story windows have brick soldier arches with limestone keystones. A small square stone tablet carved with acanthus leaves sits above the bay, and spherical finials still mark both ends of the front.

“The house retains spherical finials that crown the north and south ends of the primary (east) facade.”
