Joshua Tabatchnik designs the Belvedere, a towered neo-Romanesque apartment house, for Fillmore Gardens

Built in 1936-37, the six-story Belvedere occupies the end of the block on the south side of 35th Avenue between 84th and 85th Streets, among the later apartment houses of the Jackson Heights district. Tabatchnik gave the brick and stone building complex massing, with towers of several shapes, gabled end bays and angled bays: square towers beside the entrance carry arcaded loggias under red tile roofs, while polygonal towers mark the side streets. An arcaded porch leads to the front door.

“Built in 1936-37 to designs by Joshua Tabatchnik, the Belvedere is among the later apartment buildings erected in the historic district.”
