The Astor estate sells the Walton Avenue blockfront where Doralton Manor rises

In 1924 the estate of William Waldorf Astor sold the west side of Walton Avenue facing Joyce Kilmer Park. Between 1925 and 1927 four large apartment houses filled the blockfront: Laurelton Manor at 923, Normandie Manor at 911, Doralton Manor here at 901, and Walcourse Arms at 955 Walton Avenue. The sale was one of several that turned old estates near the Grand Concourse into apartment sites.

Absar Realty Co. filed NB 2742-1926 for Doralton Manor, completed in 1927 to designs by Charles Kreymborg & Son. Built alongside 911 and 923 Walton Avenue and nearly identical to them, the six-story building has a rusticated limestone entry portico carved with bas-relief griffins and fitted with elaborate window grilles. Its top story has paired round-arched windows under a terra-cotta cornice with a blind-arch frieze.
