    G. X. Mathews builds 1862 Putnam Avenue, which keeps its historic wood-and-glass doors

    G. X. Mathews developed this flats building in 1911, one of a group of nine designed by Louis Allmendinger for the east side of the block. It retains its historic wood-and-glass double doors and a tan-painted cornice with swags and cartouches. The windows are a mix: aluminum storm windows cover the first floor and the first two bays of the second, while replacement windows fill the fourth and fifth bays of the second floor and all of the third. The stoop is a later brick-and-cast-stone one.

“…aluminum storm windows at first floor and first two bays at second floor; aluminum replacement windows at fourth and fifth bays…”
