Filed in 1908 under permit NB 2484-08, 2037 Gates Avenue was planned by Louis Berger and Company for the developer G. X. Mathews, one of a row of eight Renaissance Revival houses running from 2029 to 2043. The five-bay buff brick front carries carved limestone lintels, keystoned at the ground floor, a bracketed stone door hood and a cornice with swags. By the 2009 designation report its cornice was painted buff, its base stonework off-white, and vinyl sash had replaced the windows.
