2047 Palmetto Street ends its row with a projecting final bay
The last of a group of eight Mathews-designed houses filed in 1910, 2047 has the same five-bay buff brick front over an amber base as its neighbors, but its final bay steps forward from the wall. The facade combines arched amber brick lintels, limestone sills, checkerboard banding and a carved limestone doorway with a pedimented hood, under a cornice decorated with swags and cartouches.

The Ridgewood North houses, this one among them, were some of the first Mathews built with his new floor plans, using wider lots, big air shafts, private bathrooms and two families per floor. In 1915 the New York City Tenement House Department displayed the Mathews Model Flats at the Panama-Pacific fair in San Francisco. Mathews had built and sold more than 300 tenements in Ridgewood between 1909 and 1912, and in 1911 he received a quarter of the tenement permits issued in Queens.
