Tappan designs the house as the mirror-image half of a hip-roofed double house

Filed in 1926 together with 34-22 87th Street (NB 1045-1926), this red-brick house is the other half of a "B" pair in Robert Tappan's row of five double houses. Its neo-Georgian details include a slate roof with dormers, wooden shutters, multi-pane double-hung windows, brickwork imitating quoins and a leaded transom over the door. Brick garden walls separate it from its neighbors and line the driveway it shares with the adjacent pair.

Landmarks report finds the row's leaded transoms and most original windows intact

By the time the Landmarks Preservation Commission described Robert Tappan's 1926 double houses on the west side of 87th Street in its 1993 Jackson Heights Historic District report, some entrance and garage doors had been replaced, but many originals survived, along with most of the first windows and every one of the leaded transoms above the doors. The houses still had their front gardens and separate gardens at the rear.

“Alterations include replacement entrance and garage doors, although many of these elements, as well as most of me original windows and all of the leaded transoms, remain intact.”
