This two-story Renaissance Revival row house over a basement was filed under permit NB 42-1908, with Louis Berger & Company as architect and John Eisenhauer as original owner. The brick facade has stone banding linking lintels and sills, brick spandrel panels, and header brick corbelling below a bracketed, denticulated cornice. Later changes include a new stoop and door, basement window grilles, a painted front, and brick-and-concrete fencing with metal gates around the areaway.

Lifelong Ridgewood resident John Eisenhauer builds 59-33 Madison Street

The house is part of John Eisenhauer's 1907-08 row at 59-15 to 59-35 Madison Street, designed by Louis Berger & Company. Eisenhauer (1869-1938) was born in Baden, Germany, and immigrated as a child with his family, whose head, Nicolas Eisenhauer, was a carpenter; they lived in Brooklyn by 1880. John followed his father into carpentry, was established in the trade by 1900, and lived in Ridgewood, apparently for the rest of his life.

“Eisenhauer built the rows at 59-22 to 59-30 Madison Street (1907) and 59-15 to 59-35 Madison Street (1907-08), all designed by Louis Berger & Company.”
