Louis Berger & Company designs 60-58 Catalpa Avenue as the corner flats building of William Bachert's row

William Bachert was the original owner of this three-story Renaissance Revival flats building on a basement, filed as new-building application 2482 of 1909. It is the first of four flats buildings in a row running from 60-58 to 60-64 Catalpa Avenue. At this end of the row the architects used a full-height angled bay and a notched brick corner, along with bands of rough-faced stone and patterned brick, keystoned lintels, a metal door hood with a swag, and a cornice with dentils, consoles and swags.
