Under permit NB 1314-11, filed in 1911, G. X. Mathews built nine buildings on the east side of Putnam Avenue between Onderdonk and Woodward avenues, 1852 through 1868. Number 1852, also known as 801, 803 and 809 Onderdonk Avenue, occupies Lot 1 of Queens tax block 3472. Louis Allmendinger designed it with a four-bay front of pale yellow brick on an amber-brick base, in Renaissance and Romanesque Revival styles.
