Louis Allmendinger designs 1861 Putnam Avenue, crowned by a cornice with swags and cartouches

Louis Allmendinger drew the plans for this 1911 flats building, built by G. X. Mathews as one of a group of eight on the west side of Putnam Avenue. Its denticulated cornice with swags and cartouches is painted pale yellow. The entry now has a non-historic door with a sidelight, the stoop is a later one of brick and cast stone, and aluminum windows have gone in. The white stucco rear is only minimally visible, though it may be seen from the M train platform.
