When the Grand Concourse opened in 1909, little had been built along it, and construction stayed slow for years afterward. In 1917 Gronenberg & Leuchtag designed this five-story apartment house for the Conwalt Construction Co. Together with its companion at 1055, finished the following year, it is one of the two earliest apartment buildings in what became the Grand Concourse Historic District; the pair stand side by side on lots over 100 feet wide.

Pale yellow brick and lunettes with scrolled keystones dress the Colonial Revival front
Permit NB 79-1917 covered a five-story Colonial Revival building faced in pale yellow brick. Patterned brickwork runs along the base, the main doorway is segmental with a molded surround, and some first- and top-story bays carry brick lunettes with scrolled keystones, a few with wrought-iron balconettes. Since then the base has been painted, the windows replaced and the upper facade and parapet apparently altered.
