  1. 1913

Ridgewood builder Charles Fritz and partner Joseph Barudio put up 57-25 Catalpa Avenue

Charles Fritz, who developed this building in 1913, was a German immigrant who arrived in Ridgewood as a boy late in the 1870s and started work as a builder in 1895. He built his Onderdonk and Catalpa Avenue tenements together with Joseph Barudio, another German, and Fritz also put up a number of other multi-family buildings around Ridgewood. Fritz chose Louis Allmendinger as architect for this group.

“He constructed the buildings on Onderdonk and Catalpa Avenues in partnership with fellow German Joseph Barudio…”
